What are some concepts you think could help players in general to play Slay the Spire to a higher level of success? His style is calm, friendly, and relaxed, and his cool analytical style comes from his time playing online Poker professionally - he hired a poker coach who instructed him to analyse his own play as a method of learning: “He had me playing sessions of poker, recording myself for an hour and explaining everything I was doing to an imaginary audience and then at the end of my session I’d stop the recording, rewatch the video and take notes and criticise myself and say “hey, that thing you said doesn’t really make sense…” and “hey, right here… do you really know what you’re talking about?” This experience, coupled with a background in Chess, Magic: the Gathering, graduate level Statistics experience, and time analysing some of the earliest written stories - “the messiest but richest data in the entire human experience: looking at how people were thinking and what they cared about before we even had writing.” - has set Stephen up well for a career built around parsing what is essentially complex data, and working out underpinning theories that he can use to explain how to approach not only Slay the Spire, but everyday life in general. Gaming content on Twitch and Youtube has largely passed me by, but in my early days struggling with Slay the Spire, a frustrated google search led me to one of Stephen’s “over explained” runs, where he spoke in length about concepts such as “equity” during his runs, how and why he made decisions, and what the game was actually asking from him rather than what many people (myself included) may believe it is asking from them. It is his job now, to stream daily Spire runs and upload Youtube videos that range from highlights to in-depth, analytical seminars he dubs “Spireside chats” that focus on everything from card analysis, to conceptual discussions of the difference between Nemesis and Optimal players in Poker, and how that maps on to the idea of playing a perfect game of Slay the Spire. Stephen “Jorbs” Flavall has played over 3500 hours of Slay the Spire. i would want this at worst to be on par with a regular defend by the time i'm going into act 2 so.the window where you want to take this is pretty small, i think.“I will never solve the Spire, there’s too much of it.” there's a lot of bullshit the game can throw at you in act 2 and burning an energy fur such a slow-burn reward seems like a bad idea. ![]() buuuut just breaking even with leap really isn't all that great, and this starts out at one block, which is a really godawful use of energy once the difficulty starts ramping up. it only takes 4 combats to equal leap's block output, 3 to overtake it if it's upgraded immediately. The real discussion to have about this card is probably how late in the game you're willing to take it. having a really strong block that you can play once is a good safety net to set up whatever it is you do to win, by the time you would be getting around to your second use of it you probably won't need it. The exhaust doesn't matter that much i think, the problems defect has to find ways to deal with are turns 1-3 ones, not as much turns 4-5+ ones. If you have Snecko Skull in a shiv deck, taking an Envenom can really hone your deck to perfection.Ĭlick here to vote on the next topic of discussion! ![]() Previous Discussion: Snecko Skull Conclusion: A very good relic for a poison deck, works great with pretty much all poison cards, works amazingly with Bouncing Flask/Noxious Fumes/Envenom. Is it a good card? A bad card? Would you only pick it up in a specific type of card? Should the developers make some changes to this card? Comment below! (Basically, if you play it for the first time, next combat it'll be "Gain 3 Block" and playing it again gives it "Gain 5 Block" for next combat, etc.) When played, permanently increase this card's Block by 2. I really like its mechanic though, this and the new Ritual Dagger are cool ideas in my opinion. I'd say change the upgrade so it no longer exhausts, but then you could easily let it reach shitloads of block. This card's not bad, but getting it up to really high levels isn't even too useful because the card still exhausts.
